Hi!

My name is Sanchez and I am the founder of Roots & Play 

About Me

I am a mixed heritage, mummy of one, living in the Midlands, UK. My background is an exotic mix of Caribbean, Maltese and English and I am fortunate enough to have visited the 4 different Islands that my grandparents were born
on.

Personally, I love mum life, travelling, spirituality, being creative and being outside in nature.

Career wise, for the past 17 years I have worked in different roles within the Education System as a teaching assistant, a primary classroom teacher, a supply teacher and a SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) practitioner. Throughout my career, it has been more than clear that our UK Education system, along with the retail market, massively lacks inclusive educational resources and toys for children from diverse and mixed backgrounds.
I always had the urge to do something about it and thought of many different ways to tackle the issues our children face. The importance of positive representation in childhood is paramount and I tried, when I could, to inject inclusive practice into my teaching and personal ethos. Well, the desire for change only grew
stronger and eventually Roots & Play was born.

The name and logo for Roots & Play, highlight the importance
of our heritage for maximum personal growth and also the ideology of learning though play.

As a brand, Roots & Play aims to positively impact children of all races to celebrate our differences and create a sense a pride
across our communities. Amongst many other aspects, positive representation in childhood is crucial in developing positive self-identity, building confidence,
breaking stereotypes, promoting inclusivity and inspiring children to achieve and succeed. My aim is for Roots & Play’s products to be used in family homes, in schools, nurseries and educational settings across the UK and beyond.

My first pack of flash cards, The Caribbean Food Cards, stem
from my own heritage but I plan to expand my products into other subjects, cultures and different areas of the curriculum.

My combined experience of my background and my extensive
experience within the educational system will work together to build a brand that not only celebrates diversity but also supports learning in a fun and dynamic way.
